What is Fat Trap?

We have developed a recycled, sustainable solution for disposing of waste cooking oils and fats.

Fat Trap is extremely versitatile and can be used to absorb any number of liquids that would ordinarily be difficult to dispose of in either domestic or commercial kitchens.

Primarily developed for use with health grills, the potential for use in other common cooking situations, including roasting and frying is unquestionable.

Why does it matter?

Most of the fat put down drains is in liquid form. The walls of the underground pipe are cold, so as the fat moves through the pipe, it cools and sets on the walls of the pipe. Flushing hot water down with the fat will not stop this, as the surrounding ground keeps it cool. The fat will build up within the pipe over a period of weeks or months.

Eventually, not only will domestic pipes and drains become blocked but sewer blockages will reduce the efficiency of the system and add to the problem of sewage flowing out of the system and into rivers or streams.

How it works

The contents of Fat Trap pouches, coir pith, is a 100% organic, sustainable product and has excellent hydroscopic and hydrophobic qualities that actually locks waste fats and oils into its honeycomb structure, turning the waste to a solid for easy and safe disposal into your household rubbish.

Active Product

Coir pith, the active filler in the pouch is the bi-product from coconut, i.e. the residue remaining from the husk after the fibrous material is removed to be used for rope, shoe and carpet manufacture.
